October 14, 2012 – Hiroki Kuroda’s official line for Game 2 of the ALCS states that he gave up three runs in 7 2/3 innings of work — but he was a lot better than that.

With two outs in the eighth, Kuroda gave up a single to Austin Jackson, and as the lead base runner Omar Infante over ran second base, Nick Swisher threw a strike to Robinson Cano. After watching replay after replay of the action at second base, it appeared that Cano tagged Infante before he touched second base. The umpire at second base called Infante safe and Kuroda was lifted from the game.

After Kuroda was pulled, Boone Logan allowed a single that brought a run to the plate, and Joba Chamberlain did the same. After giving up one run during the entire time he was in the game, Kuroda saw two more Tigers reach the…

It has taken me over 40 years, over a hundred thousand dollars ( a good estimate ), three child births, hundreds of deaths, one quadruple bypass and hip-replacement surgeries and alot of reading to come to understand one of the key components of life, business, parenting and education. PROCRASTINATION!! I have experienced it at the different levels of life: child, teen, young-adult ( ha-ha), adult and now as responsible parent. I know that the people at different stages of life who deal with the choices and chances in a quick decisive manner, for whatever reason wind up better off. I am going to relate this to  sports and physical fitness over the next 48 hours…let me know what you think.

College Athletics … Did you know?

The biggest problem that families face in the world of college selection is that they don’t know if the recruiting process is working well for them until it is too late. Competing at the collegiate level is a once in a lifetime opportunity, and you can’t go back and redo the recruiting portion if it fails.

There are two key issues that families must understand when going through the recruiting process. First, it is important for families to take a pro-active approach. In many ways, it is like seeking out a job. After all, upon graduation from college, will a graduate send out resumes or just sit by the phone and wait for an employer to call? Secondly, families must recognize that they need to be “educated shoppers” for college. Colleges are businesses and families must do their homework to find the best product. Having several colleges wanting the student-athlete will only benefit the family’s wallet in the end.

After being in the “Financial Services” industry for the past 4 years I have a burning desire to get into something I truly could say I have a “PASSION” for. Doing alot of research I have come to understand and embrace a real defficiency in our society; the college recruiting and financial aid arena in the USA. I am currently the regional director for College Prospects of America, Inc. in the Sarasota/Bradenton metropolitan area. I will be posting more information about this in the near future, in the meantime please visit our website at www.cpoa.com . I will be helping the high school student athletes and there families, educating and empowering them through the recruiting process. There is a short 2-3 year window that this process occurs…with only one chance to be recruited don’t waste it!
